A Higher Standard
We believe that integrity is essential for developing relationships upon which successful projects are built.
This higher standard is not a building code or method of analysis. It is a commitment to truth, honesty and respect for others. We are committed to abiding by Biblical principles such as treating others like we would like to be treated, choosing honesty, acting ethically, and earning trust.
“Look for three things in a person: Integrity, intelligence, energy. If they don’t have the first, don’t even bother with the other two.” Warren Buffett
Our Story
The concept of consulting embraced by Edwards & Company stems from the agricultural community. And like many great American stories, ours begins with two immigrants and a dream.
Bob Edwards’ grandparents came to this country from Italy in the early part of the 20th century. Industrious and God-fearing people, they purchased a farm and passed down their love of the land to their children and grandchildren. One of their daughters established her own prosperous greenhouse business where Bob’s interest in glass structures was set in motion.
He observed how university extension agents assist local farms to implement new technology. Their service encompassed design expertise, client education, and industry advancement. The results were increased production, efficiency, and generally making hard work easier.
Bob experienced the benefits these consultants brought to the family greenhouse operation. Their influence prompted him to study Agricultural Engineering with a focus on greenhouse structures. After college, design opportunities arose in the architectural glazing and curtainwall industries. He worked in engineering and research for window, skylight and curtainwall manufacturers.
Moving up in the curtainwall industry meant working in New York City for the Gordon H. Smith Corporation, a premier exterior wall consultancy at that time. New York projects included a number of high rise, custom facades including the first four-sided, structurally glazed, unitized curtainwall in the city.
Bob also managed the Philadelphia field office including the Liberty Place, Mellon Bank, Blue Cross, and Logan Square projects, all visible in the beautiful, Philadelphia city skyline.
In 1992, Edwards & Company was established to bring facade and enclosure consulting services to Philadelphia and the surrounding region. Edwards & Company quickly grew to the point where Philadelphia became our home base for projects from New Hampshire to Oregon, Nevada, Texas, Florida, and the Caribbean.
Today our staff continues to advance the industry, educate our clients, and provide facade and enclosure design assistance. We address curtainwalls, rain screens, masonry cavity walls and panelized systems in addition to integrated roofing and waterproofing systems.
Philosophy
We view building enclosure consulting as a mutually trusting relationship with one goal: a successfully completed project.
We believe the successful project is one where costs are minimized, quality is assured, and risks are reduced. By offering quality services to our clients, we help create structures that continue to contribute to the long-term success of the communities and cities we live in.
